high maintenance, high reward

I’ve been labeled as a high maintenance girl for as long as I can remember.

I’ve never been a 'just throw it in a ponytail and go' kind of girl (not judging). I rarely order things as is off the menu. I take nearly 60 minutes to get ready to leave the house in the morning. I will absolutely buy an entire new outfit to match a new pair of heels (and by I will I mean I have). I accessorize with purpose. I often plan out my outfits the night before. My purse is always full. When I travel, I plan my clothes with a theme to maximize shoe/jewelry coordination. I have very high expectations and articulate them often… In short, I’m probably as High Maintenance as you can get.

You’re probably shaking your head and thinking, “Oh thank God, I’m not that high maintenance.”

You may not be as extreme as me but I’d be willing to bet that someone in your life has insinuated that you’re a bit High Maintenance at some point. Maybe too High Maintenance and made you question yourself. You didn’t ask what I think about this inner debate you’re having on whether or not you’re too High Maintenance… but I’m going to give you my perspective anyway.

High Maintenance = High Reward.

Next time someone grumbles about the extra 10 minutes you spend debating which jeans make your butt look better, simply say to yourself “High Maintenance. High Reward.”  Or next time you shop for an extra hour to find the perfect pair of shoes to compliment your dress and your teenager is embarrassed you simply need to say, “High Maintenance. High Reward.”

Stop apologizing for spending the few extra minutes doing whatever it takes to make yourself feel beautiful. When you feel beautiful it shows. You radiate with confidence and that confidence, quite frankly, is hot. Change the paradigm. High Maintenance isn’t a bad thing. It doesn’t make you a drama queen or full of yourself. It makes you confident, put together, and… well, more rewarding to look at and be around.  So next time someone rolls their eyes at you and says, “She’s so high maintenance” turn around and say with attitude, “High Maintenance. High Reward!”
